Alexa, The Covert CIA Agent?

The latest Wiki Leaks dump code named “Vault 7” has sure caused quite a stir this week as many of our worst nightmares have been confirmed.  Most in the tech community have already suspected the government had the ability to spy on the American people at will through out electronic devices.

We all have smartphones, laptop and desktop computers equipped with web cameras, TVs and game consoles also equipped with microphones and webcams, and home assistant devices such as Google Home and the Amazon Alexa.  Many of these devices are constantly listening to our every word waiting to “assist” us with everyday tasks such as telling us the weather, sports scores, and the news headlines.  Many never suspected that there could be something much more sinister going on behind closed doors.

Most tend to completely disregard news like the release of the Vault 7 Wikileaks documents and think nothing of it as they feel the convenience outweighs the threats posed by the government listening in on us in our own homes.

Many even live by the mantra if I have nothing to hide why does it matter if the government listens to what I am doing.  It’s extremely scary to realize that this mindset is so prevalent today and most are completely ignorant to the fact that the government is breaching our fourth amendment right by eavesdropping on us in our own homes.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Once you take into account the words of the fourth amendment to the United States Constitution the video below should shock you to the core!

If this isn’t shocking enough, just read some of the information included in the Wiki Leaks Vault 7 document release.

Vault 7 Press Release,

THE FIRST FULL PART OF THE SERIES, “YEAR ZERO”, COMPRISES 8,761 DOCUMENTS AND FILES FROM AN ISOLATED, HIGHTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=QPDZW7YLGSQH-SECURITY NETWORK SITUATED INSIDE THE CIA’S CENTER FOR CYBER INTELLIGENCE IN LANGLEY, VIRGINA. IT FOLLOWS AN INTRODUCTORY DISCLOSURE LAST MONTH OF CIA TARGETING FRENCH POLITICAL PARTIES AND CANDIDATES IN THE LEAD UP TO THE 2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

RECENTLY, THE CIA LOST CONTROL OF THE MAJORITY OF ITS HACKING ARSENAL INCLUDING MALWARE, VIRUSES, TROJANS, WEAPONIZED “ZERO DAY” EXPLOITS, MALWARE REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEMS AND ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTATION. THIS EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION, WHICH AMOUNTS TO MORE THAN SEVERAL HUNDRED MILLION LINES OF CODE, GIVES ITS POSSESSOR THE ENTIRE HACKING CAPACITY OF THE CIA. THE ARCHIVE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN CIRCULATED AMONG FORMER U.S. GOVERNMENT HACKERS AND CONTRACTORS IN AN UNAUTHORIZED MANNER, ONE OF WHOM HAS PROVIDED WIKILEAKS WITH PORTIONS OF THE ARCHIVE.

“YEAR ZERO” INTRODUCES THE SCOPE AND DIRECTION OF THE CIA’S GLOBAL COVERT HACKING PROGRAM, ITS MALWARE ARSENAL AND DOZENS OF “ZERO DAY” WEAPONIZED EXPLOITS AGAINST A WIDE RANGE OF U.S. AND EUROPEAN COMPANY PRODUCTS, INCLUDE APPLE’S IPHONE, GOOGLE’S ANDROID AND MICROSOFT’S WINDOWS AND EVEN SAMSUNG TVS, WHICH ARE TURNED INTO COVERT MICROPHONES.

After this document release we should all be far more cognizant of the threat posed by opening our homes and ourselves to the various advancements in technology.  I am all for the conveniences these devices offers us but there may come a time when we have to ask ourselves just how much of our freedoms are we willing to surrender in the name of convenience.
