Senator Tim Kaine’s son was arrested for taking part in Saturday’s violent, anti-Trump counter-protest at the Minnesota State Capitol.
It appears the Democrat-appointed city attorney is going to let him off easy.
From Fox News:
The son of Hillary Clinton’s former running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, was one of six arrested Saturday protesting a rally in support of President Trump at the Minnesota State Capitol.
Linwood Michael Kaine, 24, and four others were arrested on suspicion of second-degree riot at the “March 4 Trump” rally in St. Paul. Another person was cited for disorderly conduct, the Duluth News Tribune reported.
Kaine, who lives in Minneapolis, was released from the Ramsey County Jail Tuesday pending a further investigation, authorities said. No charges were filed against him or the four others. The city attorney is reviewing the incident.
Kaine was involved in a skirmish between Trump supporters and counter-protesters, St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders said.
Linders said Kaine was seen with four people who lit fireworks in the capitol and fled. Police were investigating whether Kaine lit a firework, the newspaper reported.
The Duluth News Tribune’s report suggests he’s going to get off easy:
No charges were filed against him or the four other people who were arrested by St. Paul police.
St. Paul City Attorney Samuel Clark is reviewing the case for possible misdemeanor charges.
He should be facing charges for civil rights intimidation and running from police.
St. Paul police arrested Kaine and the four others near Rice Street and University Avenue, less than a block from the Capitol. After the group ran and a St. Paul police officer detained Kaine, “he turned around and squared up to fight with the officer,” Linders said Tuesday. “The officer was able to place Mr. Kaine under arrest and take him to the Ramsey County jail for booking.”
The officer used “some force” to take Kaine into custody, according to Linders, who said he didn’t have details about what it involved. The State Patrol arrested a sixth person at the Capitol.
…Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, a St. Paul native, released a Tuesday night statement through a spokesperson to the Pioneer Press.
“We love that our three children have their own views and concerns about current political issues,” he said. “They fully understand the responsibility to express those concerns peacefully.”
Indeed, nothing says “self expression” like “peacefully” setting off fireworks inside a state capitol building.
I’m sure if a group of pro-life protesters rioted and set off fireworks inside Tim Kaine’s office he’d be just as understanding.
